The gist
Singapore refiner Aster launched a port and terminals business and shifted crude buying to the Americas.
The moves widen its storage and supply options as Middle East oil flows stay.
Background
Aster Chemicals and Energy is a Singapore refiner operating a refinery on Bukom Island, a joint venture between Indonesia's Chandra Asri and commodities trader Glencore. It previously sourced about 70% of its crude from the Middle East, but the Iran war that began in late February disrupted those supplies, pushing it to buy from West Africa, Latin America, the US and Canada. In parallel, it has opened its Singapore marine, terminal and storage infrastructure to commercial customers under a new unit, Aster Port & Terminals.
