Terms of Service
These Terms are the agreement between you and the Gistline developer ("we", "us") for using the Gistline app. By using Gistline you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use Gistline
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age where you live). If you are under the age of majority in your location, you confirm that a parent or guardian permits your use of the app.
2. What Gistline is
Gistline gathers trending news from across platforms and turns it into short, structured explainer cards — a picture from the original reporting, a one-line gist, the background, a timeline, what different sides are saying, what's still unverified, and links to the sources — so you can understand what's happening at a glance, with the world at your fingertips. Cards can be read in English or Chinese. Gistline is an aid for understanding the news; it is not a news wire and not a substitute for reading the original sources.
3. Content generated by artificial intelligence — please read this
The explainer cards, summaries, translations, and other written content in Gistline are generated automatically by artificial intelligence from public news material, and are labeled in the app as powered by artificial intelligence.
Pictures are not generated by artificial intelligence: each one comes from news coverage of the story and is credited to its source. A picture illustrates the story; it may not show the exact moment, place, or people described.
You must not remove or obscure the artificial intelligence label on any card, and you must not use Gistline to create or spread content that is unlawful, or that you know to be false, in a way meant to deceive others.
4. Your account
You can browse and follow topics anonymously using a device-generated identity, or sign in with just an email address using a one-time code — there is no password. Keep access to your email secure, since anyone who can read it can request a sign-in code for your account. Your account is for your personal use only and may not be shared, transferred, or sold. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Me → Delete account).
5. Nicknames, points, and the leaderboard
Your nickname is shown to other users on the weekly leaderboard. It must not impersonate anyone (including Gistline or its developer) and must not be offensive or unlawful; we may reject or reset a nickname that breaks this rule. Points, levels, streaks, and ranks are just for fun: they have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, sold, or transferred. We may correct or remove points earned through bugs or abuse, and we may change how points work.
6. Gistline Plus subscription
Gistline is free to use with a limited number of explainer cards per day (the current allowance, including any bonus for sharing, is shown in the app). Gistline Plus is an optional paid subscription that removes the daily limit and unlocks the additional features shown on the Plus screen in the app.
- Gistline Plus is an auto-renewing subscription, offered with monthly and yearly options. The price of each option is shown in the app before you confirm your purchase and may vary by region and currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage your subscription or turn off auto-renewal at any time in your Apple ID account settings.
- Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms; we cannot issue App Store refunds directly. We may add, change, or remove Plus features and may change prices; where a price change affects a renewal, Apple will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before it takes effect.
- From time to time we may give Gistline Plus free for a limited time — for example, to new accounts. Promotional Plus is granted by us, not purchased through Apple: it costs nothing, does not renew, and simply ends on the date shown in the app. We may change or end a promotion at any time, but not for Plus time already granted.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape or access Gistline through automated means outside the app's normal use;
- bypass or interfere with rate limits, quotas, or other security or anti-abuse mechanisms;
- attack, probe, or otherwise attempt to disrupt the service or its infrastructure;
- upload, post, or transmit content that is unlawful, infringing, or harmful; or
- otherwise misuse Gistline in a way that harms us or other users.
We may suspend or terminate access for violations, proportionate to their severity.
8. Intellectual property
The Gistline app, its design and code, and the curation and arrangement of the explainer cards belong to us or our licensors. The news headlines, source articles, and pictures referenced in the cards remain the property of their original publishers and rights holders; Gistline links to and credits sources rather than claiming ownership of third-party reporting. You may not remove or alter source attributions.
If you hold rights in something shown in Gistline — such as a picture — and want it removed, email support@gg2.guru with a link to the card. We review such requests promptly and remove material where appropriate.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Gistline is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that content generated by artificial intelligence will be accurate. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of Gistline — including reliance on content generated by artificial intelligence or outages of the third-party providers we depend on. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or any mandatory consumer-protection right you have.
10. Apple's EULA and governing law
These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Gistline or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it.
For any subscription or purchase you make through Apple, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) — apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula — also applies; where it conflicts with these Terms in respect of that purchase, Apple's EULA governs. Nothing in these Terms takes away the mandatory consumer-protection rights of the country where you live. If you run into a problem or a dispute, please contact us first at support@gg2.guru — we will try in good faith to resolve it directly before any formal proceedings.
11. Changes to the service and these terms
We may update, suspend, or discontinue features of Gistline for product, security, or legal reasons, and we may update these Terms from time to time. We will note material changes in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Gistline after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms; if you do not agree, please stop using the app and delete your account.
