Oklahoma hosts No. 15 Kentucky after upsetting No. 1 Texas

Archived — this story has rotated out of today’s deck. It is kept here in full.

The gist

Oklahoma beat then-No. 1 Texas 27-24 on Tate Sandell's field goal as time expired.
The 4-2 Sooners host No. 15 Kentucky next, with two starters questionable.

Background

Oklahoma is the Sooners football program, coached by Brent Venables. The team is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in SEC (Southeastern Conference) play after a walk-off win over Texas in the Red River Rivalry, their annual rivalry game against the Longhorns played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The win came on Tate Sandell's field goal as time expired, a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown by Peyton Bowen off Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. Despite that result, OU was still only receiving votes, not ranked, in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 (the two main national college football rankings).
