AOSP source releases delayed, devs disassemble libraries

The gist

A developer reported Android 17's wcscspn/wcspbrk break on characters >= U+0100.
The bug hits any app scanning wide strings for ASCII delimiters.

How it unfolded

  1. Jun 2026Public android17-release sources (android-17.0.0_r1) build wcscspn/wcspbrk from external/llvm-libc, a correct plain nested loop over wchar_t.
  2. Sep 5, 2026Pixel 7 and Pixel 8a builds (CP3A.260905.009) are broken; disassembly of wcscspn in bionic libc.so shows a character >= 0x100 is stopped and reported as a match.
  3. Oct 12, 2026francisdb opens issue #2260 on github.com/android/ndk reporting that wcscspn()/wcspbrk() treat every wchar_t >= 0x100 as a match.
