Tesla Roadster event announced
The gist
Tesla will unveil its next-generation Roadster on Oct 15, 2026 in McGregor, Texas.
The car was first shown in 2017 and still has no production date.
How it unfolded
- Nov 2017Tesla first showed the Roadster prototype at the Semi event, taking $50,000 reservations and $250,000 Founders Series deposits, with production promised for 2020.
- 2020 -2025Production slipped repeatedly: to 2021, 2022, 2023, then "hopefully" 2024 with Musk noting "this is not a commitment," and in November 2025 to 2027 or 2028.
- Feb 2024Musk said design goals had been "radically increased," with a demo by the end of 2024 and production in 2025.
