The gist
Yankees GM Brian Cashman said he agreed a new multi-year contract after a 93-68 season ended in a Rays sweep.
The deal keeps MLB's longest-tenured GM, whose club has not won a title since 2009.
Background
Brian Cashman has been the New York Yankees' general manager since February 1998 and, at 59, is the longest-tenured GM in the majors and the longest-serving in franchise history. The Yankees went 93-68 in 2026, their third straight 90-win season, but finished second in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays and were swept by them in a best-of-five AL Division Series. Cashman's contract was due to expire at year's end, and he had not publicly addressed the season's ending before announcing the new deal. Under him the club has 29 straight winning seasons, six pennants and four World Series titles, but no championship since 2009.
