Halloween weekend shootings across US
The gist
Shootings at Halloween gatherings across the US killed at least six people and wounded dozens.
The counts differ widely, and police have not established links between the attacks.
How it unfolded
- Oct 30, 2026Two people were killed in separate shootings at Spirit Halloween stores in California and Michigan. In Fairfield, California, a 31-year-old woman family members said was pregnant was killed and six others wounded in what police called a targeted attack; in Madison Heights, Michigan, a 21-year-old man was killed.
- Oct 31, 2026One person was killed and eight wounded in two shootings just outside Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, after the Magic City Classic football game; the second came less than eight minutes after the first.
- Oct 31, 2026Six people were shot near East Main Street and Choate Street in downtown Newark, Delaware, around 11:13 p.m. near the University of Delaware campus; all six were taken to hospitals. A separate shooting at an outdoor party in Ellendale, Delaware, killed a 17-year-old girl and wounded eight others.
