The gist
Amazon and Uber made Uber Eats the official restaurant delivery partner for US Prime members, with $0 delivery fees on orders of $25 or more.
The switch ends Amazon's Grubhub+ perk and lands as delivery rivals consolidate.
Background
Amazon is the Seattle-based online retailer behind Prime, its membership program priced at $14.99 monthly or $139 annually; Uber Eats is the restaurant delivery arm of ride-hailing and delivery company Uber. Amazon had offered Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription since a 2022 deal and expanded that arrangement in 2024, but the Grubhub commercial agreement ended the same day the Uber Eats tie-up was announced. The partnership deepens an existing Amazon-Uber relationship that already spans cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and Uber Eats integration into Amazon's Alexa+ assistant, and it arrives as competitors consolidate delivery businesses.

Who’s saying what
- Official
- Amazon Prime's Jamil Ghani said the benefit makes dinner delivery easier for game nights, family nights and date nights, and adds restaurant-delivery value to a single Prime membership.
- Official
- Uber president and COO Andrew Macdonald said the two companies built an experience meant to make restaurant delivery feel as natural and affordable as ordering anything else on Uber Eats, connecting restaurants with new Prime customers.
- Analysts
- The Verge noted it remains to be seen whether the deal moves the needle for Prime subscribers, since service fees, regulatory charges, tips and menu markups still make up most of a takeout bill.
- Analysts
- The Verge said naming Uber Eats the official partner suggests Amazon is either deliberately teaming with multiple delivery apps or conceding Grubhub has become too small to matter to Prime members.
Still unverified
The Verge's estimate that members could save over $175 a year assumes ordering delivery fairly often and compares against paying full price on every order, per the outlet. Grubhub could not be reached for comment before publication, and TechCrunch said it would update if the company responds.
