Three executions in one day across Indiana, Alabama, Florida

The gist

Three states executed Jeffrey Weisheit, Jesse Guardado and Michael Taylor within 18 hours, all by lethal injection.
It is the second triple-execution day in 2026, as U.S. execution rates run well above the past decade's average.

How it unfolded

  1. Nov 5, 2026Indiana executed Jeffrey Weisheit, 50, shortly after midnight by lethal injection at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City; he was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. He was sentenced to death in 2013 for setting a 2010 house fire that killed his girlfriend's two children, ages 8 and 5.
  2. Nov 5, 2026Florida executed Jesse Guardado, 64, at 6:13 p.m. He had confessed and quickly pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a 75-year-old woman in her Walton County home in 2004 and stealing her jewelry box, $80 and other valuables to support his drug habit.
  3. Nov 5, 2026Alabama executed Michael Taylor, 54, an hour after Guardado, by lethal injection, after a judge ruled against his attorneys' objections to the method. He was convicted in the 1991 robbery murders of an older couple beaten with a metal bar in their home.
