How it unfolded
- 1980Sean S. Cunningham's low-budget Friday the 13th was released, sending camp counselors to Crystal Lake years after two counselors were murdered there. During filming, a domesticated bull snake was killed in real life while shooting the scene in which final girl Alice finds the reptile in her cabin.
- 2009A reboot titled simply Friday the 13th attempted to relaunch the franchise; it failed despite box office returns and set the franchise back for over a decade. Jason Voorhees had not appeared on screen since.
- 2024Original showrunner Bryan Fuller departed the series over creative differences with production company A24.
