- Sep 22, 2026Deputies responded at 12:10 p.m. local time to a report of subjects in the water at Lake Macbride State Park near the Coralville Reservoir spillway. Hannah Jorgensen, 24, of Tiffin was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene; the search for Ahmed had to stop overnight.
- Sep 23, 2026The body of 10-year-old Ahmed Osman, of Iowa City, was recovered from Coralville Reservoir after a search of more than 24 hours. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said the investigation is continuing.
- Sep 24, 2026The Iowa City Community School District said its "hearts are shattered" by the loss of Borlaug Elementary fifth-grade teacher Hannah Jorgensen and fifth-grade student Ahmed Osman. The sheriff's office said the incident and its circumstances remain under investigation.
