The gist
Apple's first foldable iPhone Duo launches October 23 at $1,999, with pre-orders opening October 16.
It ships needing a day-one iOS 27.1 update, and a disputed 30% supply-order report.
Background
The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone and one of its first new products under new CEO John Ternus, unveiled at the company's Surprise and Shine event in Cupertino. It runs iOS 27.1, a build exclusive to the foldable model, while other supported iPhones follow the iOS 27.2 cycle. Ahead of launch, Apple opened a pre-order staging page and released a newer iOS 27.1 build, and a Chinese report about supply orders drew pushback from another outlet.

Who’s saying what
- Analysts
- Securities Times reports Apple raised iPhone Duo supply chain orders 30%, with total 2026 supply still not exceeding 10 million units.
- Caution
- AppleInsider calls the order report unlikely and says it conflates parts orders with iPhone production, meaning nothing for iPhone demand.
- Analysts
- MacRumors and MacObserver say the revised iOS 27.1 build likely addresses bugs and improves stability before the device reaches customers, though Apple published no detailed changelog.
Still unverified
Apple could still issue another iOS 27.1 build or move the device onto iOS 27.2 before customers receive their phones; the exact update available on October 23 remains subject to change. The 30% iPhone Duo order increase is a Securities Times report that AppleInsider calls unlikely and says does math strangely. It is not clear how Apple will implement the personalized boot feature, or whether it will rely on Presto.
