Hackers publish 281 GB of AfD party emails

The gist

Unidentified hackers published 421,179 internal AfD emails, about 281 gigabytes, from roughly ten party inboxes.
The far-right party tops German polls, so the leaked files touch its national campaign.

How it unfolded

  1. Sep 3, 2026The AfD parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament reported another cyber intrusion: unknown individuals took over the account of press spokesman Hans-Jörg Jenewein and sent phishing emails from it.
  2. Sep 2026According to the party, a hosting provider used by the AfD was hit by a hacking attack in which parts of a few email accounts, most unused for years, were apparently copied unlawfully.
  3. Oct 19, 2026An anonymous archive page went online claiming to hold over 421,179 emails, around 281 gigabytes for download, plus internal documents and complete mailbox contents.
